Kyu Sakamoto เกิดที่ Hisashi Oshima ประเทศญี่ปุ่น เมื่อ 10 พฤศจิกายน 1941 ที่เมือง Kawasaki City
ผลงานเพลงที่สร้างชื่อเสียงให้ เคียว มากที่สุดคือ
เพลง Ue Muito Aruko (I look up when i walk) หรือ Sukiyaki
วางแผงที่ญี่ป่นเมื่อปี 2504 และไปวางแผงที่อเมริกา พ.ศ.2506
จากนั้นก็ขึ้นเป็นเพลงยอดนิยม อันดับ 1 ของ Billboard Chart
เขาแต่งงานกับนักแสดงหญิงชาวญี่ป่น ชื่อ Meiko Nakamura
Kyu เสียชีวิตเมื่อวันที่ 12 สิงหาคม 2528 ขณะอายุเพียง 43 ปี
เนื่องจากเครื่องบิน โบอิ้ง 747 ของแจแปนแอร์ไลน์
ที่เขาโดยสารประสบอุบัติเหตุตกห่างจากกรุงโตเกียวเพียง 96 กิโลเมตร
เขาเสียชีวิตพร้อมกับผู้โดยสารคนอื่นๆอีกรวม 520 คน
